Future Evolution and Speculation

In a million years, if we continue our evolutionary journey, we can only speculate about what humans might look like. If we achieve DNA customization, our species could splinter into multiple forms. Additionally, languages change rapidly, making it difficult to recognize ancient languages even after a few centuries.

One million years from now, we may not recognize what is human and what is not. One billion years from now, the environment might be so drastically different that earth could be inhabited by single-cell life alone. It is not certain that anything resembling humans will exist.

Survival and the Future of the Human Species

Survival is a complex and multifaceted topic. Scientifically speaking, humans have already survived various adversities such as ice ages, volcanic eruptions, pandemics, and wars. If we continue our journey towards sustainability, there is a good chance that human species can persist for another 250,000 years or even longer.

However, the future is not without its risks. Near-term human extinction due to natural causes is relatively low, but the likelihood of human extinction due to our own actions—such as climate change, pandemics, and technological risks—is being intensely studied and debated.
