Securing Great Placements at DTU with a Low Percentage in the 60s

Yes, students with a percentage in the 60s have been known to secure good placements at the Delhi Technical University (DTU). However, achieving a successful placement can be more challenging. Various factors influence the placement opportunities, such as the field of study, skills, internships, networking, and preparation. This article explores how students can navigate these challenges and achieve remarkable placements despite their academic standing.

Field of Study

The field of study plays a crucial role in placement opportunities. Certain branches, such as Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), typically have higher placement rates and better opportunities. In contrast, other fields may offer fewer options. Therefore, choosing the right stream is essential.

Skills and Internships

Practical skills and relevant internships significantly enhance a candidate's profile, making them more attractive to employers. Students who engage in internships and projects gain invaluable experience, improve their skills, and build a strong portfolio. This experience can set them apart from others and increase their chances of securing good placements.

Networking and Soft Skills

Good communication skills and networking are also crucial for securing placements. Building a professional network through college events, industry meetups, and social media platforms can offer numerous opportunities. Students should focus on developing their soft skills, such as public speaking, negotiation, and teamwork, which can greatly benefit their career prospects.

Preparation

Proper preparation for interviews and a strong understanding of the subject matter can greatly improve a candidate's performance. Students should focus on refining their interview skills, understanding the latest trends in their field, and preparing thoroughly for campus recruitment drives. This preparation can significantly impact their chances of securing a good placement.

Company Requirements and Placement Statistics

The requirements set by different companies can vary widely. Certain companies may prioritize skills and experience over academic scores, while others may have strict cut-offs. Here are some placement statistics from DTU:

Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) Companies: Companies like Nestlé, Hindustan Coca-Cola Bottlers (HCCB) may not even consider candidates with a percentage in the 60s. However, there might be some smaller companies, such as Varun Beverages, that offer placements but may not have the best locations. Our college president, 15, secured a placement at Varun Beverages. Big 3 Consultancies: These companies generally prefer candidates with higher scores. It may be challenging to secure placement in big consultancies, even if you explain your academic performance. They may still prefer candidates with scores above 70, if any are available after the initial screening rounds. Startups: Startups often value potential and willingness to learn over academic percentages. Companies that promise not only a job but also a career in its making are worth considering. Blesson Joseph from my batch, who had an age around 65, got placed in SmartCubes. Rishabh Gupta, from the EE batch of 2015, secured placements in UHG and Snapdeal with an initial age around 58. Business Analyst and Data Analyst Profiles: Companies like Snapdeal, EXL, Axtria, and SmartCubes are open to hiring candidates with a percentage in the 60s. This is evident in the success of one of my batch mates, Blesson Joseph, who got placed in SmartCubes with an age around 65.

In conclusion, achieving a great placement at DTU with a percentage in the 60s is possible with the right strategies and preparation. Focus on your field of study, acquire practical skills through internships, network effectively, and prepare diligently for interviews. By leveraging these strategies, you can significantly improve your chances of securing a successful placement.
