Contrary to popular belief, we don’t control our feelings. Instead, we control our words and actions. When we allow our feelings to pass, we are much more in control of how we respond. On the other hand, when we seize onto our feelings, they can consume us, making it difficult to act or respond wisely. It is essential to remember that emotions, like clouds, are temporary and will eventually pass.

Balancing Our Thoughts and Feelings

Our emotional experiences are closely tied to our thoughts. Just as we can feed our minds with loving, joyful, and grateful messages, we can also drown ourselves in fearful, angry, and shaming thoughts. The choice is ours. By consciously choosing to fill our minds with positive affirmations and messages, we can significantly alter our emotional states. This practice leads to a more positive and enjoyable life.

Feelings are essentially a secretion of hormones into the bloodstream in response to a thought. Different cocktails of hormones correspond to each feeling, or they could be forms of energy. Therefore, our emotional responses are not always a direct mirror of our external environment. Sometimes, our feelings are triggered by mistaken thoughts. It’s important to trust our feelings but avoid assuming there is a direct connection between our emotions and the world around us.

Managing Emotional Arousal

When we are emotionally aroused, it might not be the best time to solve problems or engage in certain types of conversations. Our emotional state can cloud our judgment and lead to ineffective or even harmful outcomes. It’s crucial to give ourselves permission to decompress before tackling such matters. This self-care practice can prevent unnecessary conflicts and ensure that we approach situations with clarity and wisdom.

Emotional Resilience in Relationships

Relationships, especially intimate ones, can be challenging. Sometimes, a partner who walks away is not necessarily wrong; stepping out can be a necessary decompression. It doesn’t mean giving up; it might mean taking a break to regroup and reevaluate. If one cannot provide or receive decompression in a relationship, it can lead to toxic dynamics, and violence may be inevitable. Allowing decompression can make the relationship gentler and more resilient.

Self-care is integral to emotional well-being. Allow your feelings to pass naturally without clinging to them. Feed your mind with loving, joyful, and grateful messages. As you do so, your feelings will become more enjoyable, and your vibration will rise. A higher vibration can lead to consistent feelings of love, joy, and gratitude, which may seem too good to be true but is indeed true.
