JEE Preparation: Choosing Between Unacademy and Physics Wallah

Are you preparing for the IIT-JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) through self-study? Two popular YouTube channels, Unacademy and Physics Wallah, are widely used for JEE preparation. In this article, we will explore the strengths and weaknesses of each platform to help you make an informed decision.

Unacademy: A Comprehensive Guide

Unacademy's Plus Course has gained immense popularity among JEE aspirants. The teachers are highly experienced, which significantly aids in the preparation process. Joining the Plus Course without a referral code can be quite expensive, but using a referral code like PLUSYAQNR can provide you with substantial discounts.

While Unacademy offers both JEE Main and Advanced levels, it's known for its comprehensive approach. However, it might sometimes leave certain topics uncovered, such as detailed discussions on hydrogen bonding or back bonding in chemical bonding. This is less of an issue for students who attend coaching classes, as they can fill in the gaps by studying additional resources like Physics Wallah.

Physics Wallah: A Foundation Builder

Physics Wallah has been praised for its basic level teaching, especially for JEE Mains. They provide foundational knowledge, which is crucial for students who might struggle with advanced concepts. While Unacademy might not cover the absolute basics as thoroughly, it still gets much closer to JEE Main level content.

For Class 11, I recommend studying from Namo Kaul, and for Class 12, opt for Physics Wallah. Keep in mind that both channels can be used interchangeably depending on your needs. Watching a video from one and then switching to the other when a particular topic is not covered can be a good strategy.

A Personal Perspective

I found Unacademy's pace more suitable for my learning style, and their questions are more insightful. While Physics Wallah is known for its detailed explanations and is particularly strong for Mains level, both platforms have their unique strengths. Ultimately, you don't have to choose one over the other. You can benefit from both channels to cover all your preparation needs.

Resources and Tips for JEE Mains Success

With JEE Main, the goal should be to secure a minimum of 180 marks (for General category) to ensure admission to a National Institute of Technology (NIT) or an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT). To achieve this, it's essential to follow a structured study plan and utilize various resources effectively. Here are some tips:

YouTube and Search Engine Help: Use search engines to find quality videos on specific topics. For example, searching 'inert pair effect' in YouTube will yield at least 5-6 good quality videos. Subscribe to channels that you find credible based on the content and teaching style. Review Current Topics: Keep a note of what channels are currently teaching. This will help you stay updated with the latest tricks and questions. Solve Previous Year Papers: Past year papers are crucial for practice. Solve at least 5-6 questions directly from previous years' papers. This will help you to familiarize yourself with the pattern and content of the exam. Absolute Grip on NCERT Textbooks: Solving NCERT Exemplar problems, especially in Chemistry, can significantly enhance your score. Practice these problems thoroughly to solidify your understanding of the subject. Solve Mock Papers: Purchase mock papers from various publications to get a feel of the actual exam. Simulate the exam environment as close as possible to perform well in the actual test. Religious Study of HC Verma: Solving HC Verma books religiously can help you secure a minimum of 70 marks in the Physics section of JEE Main. Focus on Important Topics: Certain topics are crucial for scoring high. Focus on these topics without covering the entire syllabus. Following the right topics, you can easily score 150 marks by studying only 30% of the syllabus. Be Cautious with Books: Avoid buying books without thoroughly reviewing them. Be aware of the market's availability of fake or useless JEE preparation books.

By following these resources and tips, you can significantly improve your chances of success in JEE Mains. Happy studying!
